VACANCY: Translator-Interpreter at UN OCHA Sub-Office
TERM OF REFERENCE
Title: Translator/Interpreter
Duty station Padang
Duration 3 months
SSA with possible extensionMain Responsibility:
Reporting directly to the Head of Sub office OCHA in Padang , West Sumatra.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of and reporting to, the Head
of Sub-Office OCHA, Padang , the incumbent will;
- Provide simultaneous translation/ interpretation from Indonesian into English and vice-versa to the Head of Sub-Office at all designated formal and informal meetings. In the course of carrying out this tasks/he will ensure that information exchanged in the course of interpretation and translation during these meeting is complete and free of distortion;
- Translate documents and data collected which are of relevance to the work of UN;
- Translate articles designated important to the work of UN;
- Accompany UNDP/OCHA/Shelter Cluster on visits to the project field areas or other locations during the conduct of interviews;
- Accompany and provide interpretation and translation to UN missions during assessment, fact finding or other work-related trips within, and when necessary, outside the Province;
- Assist in and facilitate contacts between the Shelter Cluster or other relevant UN staff based in Padang or visiting the field office, and other parties as deemed necessary in the course of the work of UNDP/OCHA;
- Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the UNDP/OCHA deemed necessary and/or important for the efficient running of UNDP/OCHA;
Qualifications
- A university degree or relevant experience in social sciences, social work, or languages
- Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia
- Experience in interpretation and/or translation work
- Experience in areas related to the work of humanitarian matters
- Experience gained from working in the UN is an advantage
- Knowledge of computer technology and relevant software (Microsoft Window)
